(Removal of increasingly mundane subjects which the ministry of education inserted into our syllabus without giving another thought of what those subjects would help us accomplish. )
Good morning dearest principal, vice principal and teachers,
It has come to my attention that the Ministry Of Education, also called the MOE, has been trying to create an all-rounded education system for the students of Singapore. However , in the bid of achieving this all-rounded education, the MOE has introduced subjects like SS more commonly known as Social Studies to prepare student to face the society itself, and enable us to make the correct decisions, but here we are, learning how to scrape passes in our 'O' Levels.
Social Studies, or also know as SS to all, has been a topic of discussion over these years, with many students and teachers alike questioning its usefulness. The topics that we'd learnt in the course of our SS lessons teaches us the true meaning of war and peace, how much pain war brings us, and how boring peace is always better than exciting war. We'd also learnt to appreciate our ethnic counterparts, and to tolerate what to them is culture but to us are hindrances that should be removed. This is the whole points of SS: to appreciate, tolerate, love and to live in harmony.
During the course of examination, we would be questioned on our ability to answer questions based on physical evidence known as SOURCES. Even with the slightest mistake of not starting the question with a Both would lead us on to getting 0 marks for the whole question. In SS, we learn about conflict in multi-ethnic societies, to prevent us from making the same mistakes as the others in the past, but yet, time is wasted on learning how to question a source's reliability. So students end their lessons with nothing but sources, sources and sources. At the end of the day, Nothing is accomplished, just the knowledge of how to ace an 'O' level subject.
In consideration to the many complains of teachers and students alike, and my own bad experiences with the subject itself as well as others. One of them known to be Leon Tan from 3H who failed the subject miserably and caused his overall grades to plummet. To sum it up, certain Ministry of Education subjects, designed to assist in the development of the nation, are being taught the wrong way, leading to the undesired result.
